Am I required to purchase a meal plan?
Students living in WVU Tech-operated residence halls are required to purchase a Residential Meal Plan. Students who reside off campus or commute from home may purchase a meal plan at their discretion. Many students choose to purchase a meal plan due to the convenience, variety, affordability and quality of our dining venues on campus. Call 304.442.3278 for more details.
You may upgrade your dining plan at any time during the semester. However, you may only request to reduce your meal plan within the first two weeks the semester in order to obtain a pro-rated refund of the difference in plan costs.
- Meal plan changes for Spring 2016 will begin on December 21, 2015 and end January 18, 2016
Do unused meals from my dining plan carry over to the next semester?
No, unused meals do not carry over to the following semester. Plan costs are based on food costs, wages and other expenses incurred during the current semester.
Can I put a Table Tent in the Bears Den?
Yes! Table tents should:
- Promote an event for the WVU Tech campus or an event that supports a recognized WVU Tech student organization or WVU Tech student.
- Not reference or promote high-risk drinking or other high-risk activities.
- Be approved by the Director of Dining Services.
- Be removed after seven days.
Given space limitations, no more than one table tent can be on display at a time.
Can a guest use my meal card?
No, dining plans represent a contract between the student (the plan holder) and WVU Tech Dining Services. We base our costs on this purchase agreement. Allowing others to use your meal card jeopardizes our ability to keep your dining costs as low as possible.
Can I take food out of the Bears Den?
If you’re rushing between classes or just want to eat your meal elsewhere, takeout boxes are available in the Bears Den. You will be allowed to take one large box, one cup with a lid and one whole fruit. All items must fit into the boxes we provide and no bags are allowed. This is a service we provide to aid students who can’t make meal time. Students who abuse the carry-out option may be prohibited from utilizing this service. The SSC Vending Cafe and the Tech Spot are also great food options for busy students on the go!
Can I use my meal plan at the SSC Vending Cafe and the Tech Spot grab-and-go?
What are the weekend hours of the Bears Den?
Brunch 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. / Dinner 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Can I purchase a Meal Plan that has a set number of meals per semester?
Yes, students who live off campus or commute from home can purchase a meal plan for a specific set of meals per semester. It is possible to exhaust these plans prior to the end of the semester. We also provide “refills” for each plan. For details, see our Meal Plans.
Where can I find low-fat food options?
All of WVU Tech’s food venues offer a wide variety of healthy options. Our nationally-recognized, award-winning Healthy “U” program was developed to educate students about making healthy food choices.
Do you have non-meat, vegetarian or vegan options on the Dining Services menu?
We offer soy and almond milk as well as black bean and soy burgers on request. We also offer protein bars, TVP and tofu that we will cook to order. Please be sure to let us know if you have any particular dietary restrictions or requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Who develops the Dining Services menu?
The director of WVU Tech Dining Services in collaboration with the Executive Chef and the Dietitian on the main campus of WVU review all of our products and recipes to insure that we provide you with a wide variety of quality, appealing food choices.
What day starts a new week of meals for each Meal Plan?
For Residential Meal Plans, a new week begins each Thursday morning and ends the following Wednesday evening. Meals do not carry over from week to week with these plans.
Can I work for Dining Services?
Yes. WVU Tech Dining Services hires students each year. Whether you’re looking for extra cash, work experience, friendship or fun, check out the opportunities we have to offer. How many weeks are in each semester?
There are 16 weeks in each semester. 314 meals are served each semester on the 19 meal residential plan.
Where does Dining Services get the products used in their meals?
Dining Services uses many well-known brand-name food items for every meal. Products from Ben & Jerry’s, Campbell’s, General Mills, Healthy Choice, Heinz, Hershey’s, Hormel, Jimmy Dean, Kellogg’s, Nestle, Pillsbury, Post, Sara Lee, Stouffers and Starbucks provide quality products and a variety of choices for a healthy, balanced diet every day.
