Dining FAQ
Am I required to purchase a dining plan?
Students living in WVU Tech-operated residence halls are required to
purchase a Residential Dining Plan. Students who reside off campus or commute from
home may purchase a dining plan at their discretion. Many students choose to purchase
a dining plan due to the convenience, variety, affordability and quality of our dining
venues on campus. Call 304.929.1226 for more details.
Do unused meals from my dining plan carry over to the next semester?
No, unused meals do not carry over to the following semester. Plan costs are based
on food costs, wages and other expenses incurred during the current semester.

Can I put a Table Tent in the Bears Den?
Yes! Table tents should:
- Promote an event for the WVU Tech campus or an event that supports a recognized WVU Tech student organization or student.
- Not reference or promote high-risk drinking or other high-risk activities.
- Be approved by the Director of Dining Services.
- Be removed after seven days.
Given space limitations, no more than one table tent can be on display at a time.
Can a guest use my meal card?
No. Dining plans represent a contract between the student (the plan holder)
and WVU Tech Dining Services. We base our costs on this purchase agreement.
Allowing others to use your meal card jeopardizes our ability to keep your dining
costs as low as possible.
Can I take food out of the Bears Den?
If you’re rushing between classes or just want to eat your meal elsewhere, takeout
boxes are available in the Bears Den. You will be allowed to take one large box,
one cup with a lid and one whole fruit. All items must fit into the boxes we provide
and no bags are allowed. This is a service we provide to aid students who can’t
make meal time. Students who abuse the carry-out option may be prohibited from
utilizing this service. The Tech Spot is also a great food option for
busy students on the go!
Can I use my meal plan at the Tech Spot?
Yes!
Can I purchase a Dining Plan that has a set number of meals per semester?
Yes. Students who live off campus or commute from home can purchase a dining plan for a specific set of meals per semester. It is possible to exhaust these
plans prior to the end of the semester. We also provide “refills” for each plan.
For details, see our
Meal Plans.
Where can I find low-fat food options?
All of WVU Tech’s food venues offer a wide variety of healthy options.
Our nationally-recognized, award-winning Healthy “U” program was developed to educate
students about making healthy food choices.
Do you have non-meat, vegetarian or vegan options on the Dining Services menu?
We offer soy and almond milk as well as black bean and soy burgers on request.
We also offer protein bars, TVP, and tofu that we will cook to order.
Please be sure to let us know if you have any particular dietary restrictions or
requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Who develops the Dining Services menu?
The director of WVU Tech Dining Services in collaboration with the Executive
Chef and the Dietitian from the WVU Morgantown Campus review all of our products
and recipes to insure that we provide you with a wide variety of quality, appealing
food choices.
What day starts a new week of meals for each Dining Plan? For Residential Dining Plans, a new week begins each Saturday morning and ends the following Friday night. Meals do not carry over from week to week with the WVU Tech plans.
Do my Dining Dollars roll over from fall to spring?
Dining Dollars will roll over from the fall semester to the spring semester, but
they will not roll beyond the spring semester.
What are Dining Dollars?
When WVU Tech students purchase a Golden Bears Select plan, they will receive $75 in Dining Dollars. Dining Dollars can be used to…
- Purchase meals, drinks or snacks at the Tech Spot.
- Purchase a meal at a residential dining hall. If you use up your meal swipes for the week before they’re refilled Saturday morning, you can purchase a meal with Dining Dollars.
- Purchase a meal for a friend, family member or guest, as long as the cardholder is present to swipe his or her Mountaineer Card. You cannot use one of your meal swipes for someone else to eat at a residential dining hall, but you can treat them using your Dining Dollars.
If you don’t use all of your Dining Dollars during the fall semester, they will roll over for use during the spring semester (as long as the student is still enrolled). The Dining Dollars will expire at the end of the spring semester. Dining Dollars can be refilled by calling the dining office at 304-293-3166.
